My Friend is Published!

My friend, Alyson Thoner, who works for my favorite group of Jesus-loving-and-serving-justice-seekers, IJM, has very recently been published!

She is a really–REALLY–good writer. I mean, really good. (Unlike me, who, apparently has never heard of a thesaurus… or another word for “really.”)

A great article of hers was published in the July 12 issue of World Magazine. It’s about a documentary called, As We Forgive.
You can go here and read the first part of Alyson’s article online. You can’t read the whole thing without subscribing, but an earlier version of her article is here on her blog.  I am so proud of her!

I didn’t know about the movie until recently, and so I missed the two screenings that took place in my Cities a few months back. I am having my occasional, “I wish I went to a mega-church-jones,” because if I did, I would try to arrange another screening. But I don’t know how to make “big” things like that happen at my church of 100 people.

The movie, (which just won the student documentary Oscar), is about the reconciliation effort in Rwanda between the genocide murderers and those they tried to kill.

Yes, that’s what I said. There are Christians in Rwanda who are forgiving the murderers of their loved ones; their own would-be murderers, in many cases. They are living out their faith—by divine intervention—in a way I cannot imagine.

Just go here and watch the trailer. It’s two minutes long and I think it will grab you.
