My Finest 35 Minutes (of the retreat, besides the massage, which was an hour and 45 minutes–Thank you, Amy!) Part Two
The theme was “Live in Peace” from 2 Cor. 13:11. Saturday night I talked about the portion of the verse where we’re instructed to “Be Like-Minded”.
Disclaimers 1 through 10
- I can’t do anything better than I sing (outside of being a wife and mom, I hope). I’d rather sing than speak or write. So if you listened to the song you have already heard my best contribution to the retreat.
- I didn’t say Saturday night was good. I said it was the best one of the weekend.
- I was free. (So is this blog.) You may just get what you pay for. There was no budget for a professional. In fact, we only have to get orders for 60 more shirts and we’ll break even. ;-)
- Twenty-nine other women were there; sixteen were my friends from church or elsewhere. It was intimate. I could be myself.
- I have never claimed I had a calling. I have wondered and that’s all.
- I was the speaker, one of the main idea people/planners, an emergency check-in person, the one who apparently was supposed to remember to bring the church check book (although I’ve never laid eyes on it), and the default MC; which, as it turns out, is too many hats, even for me.
- This is not something to listen to if you don’t love me.
- This is not something to listen to over and over again. I have, and the self-loathing is uh, growing, um, to frightening, you know, proportions!
- I had never spoken longer than 15 minutes in my life (and that was my own testimony.) I was not representing myself as a professional.
- I am as type A as people think I am; I even felt like I was failing at getting my massage for a moment or two when I couldn’t relax properly. So, if you leave a comment, please be as kind as you can be, while being 100% truthful. Start with something nice, next tell me the absolute worst thing you can, then end with something nice. (It’s a slight variation from Lysa TerKuerst’s Oreo pattern, if anyone remembers it).
I have read and understand the preceding, and hereby relinquish all expectations: [Agree and listen]

I listened to it, twice. Whad’ya gonna do about it, huh?
I enjoyed it even more now that I am home and can rewind. You really covered alot of ground. And like you, it was true and insightful and filled with tenderness.

I miss you already, Mon Ami!
Thank you for being so GOOD to me. Always. Thanks for driving, too! Can you imagine if I had had to drive, too!?!?!?

Hi Helen! I’m at work and can’t listen now, but please know I’m dying to and will when I can have some uninterrupted time. I LOVE your “disclaimer”–very clever. :-)

You were such a faithful messenger. What a true Word for us to keep in mind as we grow together in Christ. I’m proud of you, Sista!

Besides singing, speaking is another gift! I enjoyed hearing you and learned from your message. It was a delightful surprise, but I have to admit, I already tell people you are a writer and a publisher. The singing goes w/o saying!! Love~

“I had never spoken longer than 15 minutes in my life”… ehhh yeah… I can’t remember when you’ve only spoken 15 minutes. :)
Man, there’s some freaky messages in there if you play it backwards.

It took me a month to see “SONG” and half hour to listen(the Apple:) Dah. Your song was beatiful! As good as your voice has always been, it is even better now. I’m serious, your voice is fantastic. My cousin Tom has for 5 years asked to hear ‘the singer’s tapes’, meaning you when you sang at my Mom’s service. Tom was a minister and your voice touched his heart. The song had ‘I’m so glad I trusted Jesus’ in it(or titled that). I’m glad I checked back! Love~
