This day is a real test of faith in God’s sovereignty. God can use heroes or scoundrels to do His work in nations and the hearts of citizens; some work as His servants, others oppose Him; but none can overcome Him.

It’s so easy to pray for an elected official when I admire him. It was painful to do it for one in particular who disgusted me on almost a daily basis. (He couldn’t even make a facial expression that didn’t look like a lie to me.)

But God’s word commands me to pray for my leaders. Period. And that was written around the time of Nero, so what am I complaining about?

I have the notion that in any given era we get what we need where leaders are concerned.

I hope we get better than we deserve.
