Goodbye, Roxanne

My beloved posted about the [death of our oldest cat](http://www.kpmartin.com/2006/10/16/roxanne-died/) and I wanted to observe the event, too.

It was hard; holding a vigil for an old, tired cat. To go down the stairs several times and wonder what I would find. I am very thankful that she went in between trips and that Ken is the one who found her, still and peaceful looking. The only thing that looked different to me about her was that the shallow breaths were no more.

He said in his post that my wonderful answer to the kids about pets and the afterlife would be, if we need her to be in Heaven she will be. Now while I *am* clearly wonderful, I think I got that concept from Billy Graham, via Paul Harvey or someone. The complete quote was something like, “If the only way we can be happy in Heaven is if our dear departed pet is there, then God will see to it that they are.”

Another answer, if not less vague, then at least, perhaps, more true to His character (and therefore more comforting) would be, “If she isn’t, then that’s only because God has something better in mind for her and for us.”
