Do I *look* like I like science fiction?
There is a wonderful old movie theater in our Dayton’s Bluff neighborhood called [The Mounds Theatre](http://www.moundstheater.com). [Here's](http://www.moundstheatre.org/MoundsTheatre/MoundsTheater1925to1950.html) what it looked like over its first several years - And then what it [became](http://www.moundstheatre.org/MoundsTheatre/MoundsTheater1950to2000.html).
Back in 2001 the building was donated to a [non-profit organization](http://www.theportage.com/) and a renovation of amazing proportions began. [These photos](http://www.moundstheatre.org/MoundsTheatre/MoundsTheaterBalcony.html) give an idea of how big of a job it was.
But just look at it now: [outside](http://www.daytonsbluff.org/old/2004HomeTour.html) (scroll down) and [inside](http://www.moundstheater.com/MoundsTheatre/Rental_Rates.html)! Even the old [light fixtures](http://www.moundstheatre.org/MoundsTheatre/MoundsTheaterLightFixtures.html) were found and returned to their former glory. (Here’s a link to their site where they have [more photos](http://www.moundstheatre.org/MoundsTheatre/Photo_History.html).)
It’s become a great space which is now being graced with movies, live theater, theater camps for kids, and private functions, including [weddings](http://www.moundstheater.com/MoundsTheatre/Weddings.html). (I don’t know who the happy couple are - except they’re probably Amber and Jason - but scroll down at the link and see some additional interior pictures.)
We have yet to attend anything there. We had already lived in this neighborhood seven years before the renovation began. And we had spent seven years of driving by the place and thinking, “Wouldn’t it be great if it re-opened someday?”
We missed out the night when they showed the Errol Flynn movie, ["Robin Hood"](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0029843/) (no sitter) and it still stings. We didn’t even go and see the classic, ["A Christmas Story"](http://www.moundstheatre.org/MoundsTheatre/season.html) either of the two consecutive years it’s been staged there. And we can’t have our wedding there ’cause we already done got married!
But we get another chance! Next month they’re having their [First Annual Science Fiction Movie Festival](http://www.moundstheatre.org/MoundsTheatre/2006_SF_Movie_Fest.html)!
The original ["War of the Worlds"](http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/6305350221/002-2081128-1669663?v=glance&n=130), (along with four other films) will be shown on the big screen and we plan to be there, (for at least one of them!)
Who’s in?
