I’ve Been Away
Not out of town or hospitalized or suffering from amnesia - just kind of lost interest in blogging for a time.
Our kids’ school ended last week and it seems there was something end-of-school related every day.
And then there is the garden! Oh, my husband is amazing. He has worked and worked in that garden to get it ready. We changed its shape considerably and much earth was moved and enhanced.
And the morning glories for the veranda? Mrs. O’Connor is our elderly neighbor who isn’t terribly fond of grapevine. She has, nonetheless, a quite active vine on her side of the fence. When I noticed the grapevine had grown over seven feet tall already, I went around to her side of the fence and trained those vines to go over my side of the fence and onto the lights. Several healthy vines have already curled their adorable and tenacious tendrils around the strands of “icicles.” (My idea of worked!) They are growing fast, too.
Not sure what I will do with the morning glories. Those that survived are growing nicely. I think I will set them along some of the chain link fence…?
Oh - and I planted thyme in some of the cracks between the cement squares that are the floor of the veranda. If it spreads like I’m hoping, it will be so much nicer than the broad leaf weeds and dandelions that spring up and resist being pulled.
I am thankful to have something fun to work on. I’ve actually been able to enjoy being outside, even with the heat. And let’s talk about that for a second. The AC in the minivan isn’t working. It’s a good thing - a very good thing - that I am not pregnant and/or nursing. This is the first summer since 1994 that this has been the case. Wow. Eleven summers with zero tolerance for heat. (But you’re probably saying, “Wow. Eleven years pregnant and/or nursing.”)
