Ken’s Spidey Sense

Yesterday my beloved and I were discussing a guy he once knew who was polished, convincing and persuasive. While somewhat intrigued by the man’s apparent career accomplishments, Ken’s impression of him was tainted by the vague residue of dishonesty that seemed to cling to his clothing and linger in the air after the man left a room.

Ken didn’t have any facts to back up his apprehension, he just knew somehow that this guy couldn’t be trusted. As it turned out, he couldn’t be trusted on many levels.

I wondered aloud, and then quickly concluded, that one reason Ken is so hard to fool is that he is content. He can’t be distracted by the con-men [(and hired party psychics)][1] of this world because they are unable to offer him anything he can’t find elsewhere, wait for, or simply do without.

It’s infuriating to play Monopoly with him for that very reason.

I’ll have you know that that residue was left there by the guy whose clothes I stole!
