Talkin’ Trash

On Monday James Lileks [("The Bleat")][1] mentioned his trash collector’s tyrannical behavior and it made me realize how fortunate we are to be living where we are and not in a hoitier-toitier neighborhood. (Actually, I only assume Jasperwood is in a better place than the Rockin’ East Side, but I digress.)

Our trash guys will take anything. The other day, they took a cast off accordion closet door. Once, I left the Storm Door from our front entrance, and they took that, too!

When I push the limit in that way I find myself timidly watching from the window, seeing if the guys are swearing or throwing our trash cans back to the curb.

But I never see any trace of disdain. And the stuff never gets put on the bill. I thought it was because sometimes we forget to put the container on the curb and that maybe the guys mentally add up credits on our behalf. But it’s been too long since that has happened to justify their generousity.

Maybe the crime syndicate which runs our trash company is less ruthless than Mr. Lileks’. At any rate, I am going to ride this wave as long as it lasts. I have plenty of stuff un-Goodwill-Worthy to get rid of.
