January Thaw

It would be so nice to be able to start on one of the areas of the house that are calling to me for the transforming power of Behr paint in Martha colors. But I can’t justify using Glorious Nap Time for decorating when I have the pile of laundry and the pile of papers and the pile of dustbunnies.

It has been like this for weeks now. At first it was Ken who was ill, and I was so busy doing everything kid-related that I got even more behind on stuff than the holiday season usually gets me.

If it wasn’t for the crud I still have, I would have been a whirlwind of Spring-like cleaning today. Instead I napped.

For all we romanticize it, Spring ain’t pretty. It’s brown grass and dirty snow and the neighbor dog’s leavings thawing in the sun. But I long for it, equally because of what’s coming and what’s going.

The warm weather will bring me my first tulips, if I did it right, and hopefully a modest vegetable garden, if I get back to it this year. I will be able to use the new copper fireplace, and the “Veranda” (the area behind the garage) and I may even buy new Ikea outdoor furniture.

And seriously, what is the point of winter after the Christmas stuff is taken down? It is, finally. The tree is in the yard adorned with about a dozen little [egg shaped bird feeders][1]. The decorations are put away; OK, they’re packed in their boxes which await transport up two staircases to the attic, but my part is done.

As soon as I feel better I will be free! I can do whatever I want. I can choose to catch up on the paperwork and bills, catch up on the laundry, catch up on the clutter control, catch up on my thank you notes, or catch up with my friends.

Or, not catch up on anything and as [Flylady][2] says, just jump in where I am.

This faux Spring is just the thing to motivate the leap.
